After leaving the Acropolis, we visited two important museums. The first is the National Archaeological Museum. It has so many treasures it would be impossible to see them all. One of its large rooms displays objects taken from the excvations at Mycenae. Among them are several funeral stelae (plural of stela), meaning a stone slab with a commemorative purpose. The stelae were found at Grave Circle A, either covering the shaft graves or lying beside them. Most have military or hunting scenes. This one may show a chariot race, such as were held to honor the deceased.
